The AAT Level 2 Certificate in Bookkeeping is designed to provide students with the fundamental bookkeeping skills essential for a wide range of finance roles. By completing this qualification, students will develop practical accountancy skills in the double entry bookkeeping system, understand the relationship between various accounting records, and gain proficiency in dealing with VAT and trial balances.

Course Modules

The AAT Level 2 Certificate in Bookkeeping comprises of two modules:

This unit introduces students to the double entry bookkeeping system and the associated documents and processes.

Students will learn how to set up bookkeeping systems, process customer and supplier transactions, manage receipts and payments, and record transactions into ledger accounts. The unit covers both manual and digital systems, providing students with the flexibility to adapt to various accounting environments.

Building upon the knowledge gained in the Introduction to Bookkeeping unit, this module explores control accounts, journals, and reconciliations.

Students will learn to produce control accounts, reconcile bank statements with cash books, use journals to record transactions, and prepare trial balances. This unit enhances students’ ability to verify and validate entries, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of financial records.
